An Interview With Megan

Tell us about your clinical experience:

I have worked in many different types of facilities, including inpatient and outpatient care. I’ve dabbled in adolescent care, substance use treatment, some art therapy techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. When I moved to outpatient work from emergency services I started to focus down into obsessive compulsive disorder treatment through exposure and response prevention and perinatal mood disorders, among depression, and anxiety.

What’s it like to be in a therapy session with you?

I think I laugh in 95% of my sessions with my clients. Even when we’re doing trauma work there is some levity. I want you to feel in control of your treatment and that we are a partnership helping to get you to meet your goals as quickly as possible.

What do you specialize in? (both diagnoses and approaches)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Perinatal Mood Disorders, like post-partum depression. I also enjoy working with teens, couples, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. In terms of approaches, I try to match what you are experiencing to what works best and come from an Adlerian Therapy perspective. Exposure and response prevention and Emotional Freedom Technique are ones that I lean heavy on due to the diagnoses I specialize in, as well as the standard CBT.

What do you want your future clients to know?

Therapy is probably the hardest thing you will ever do and the most rewarding. It has the power to change how you interact with the world, how you feel about yourself, and in turn how others treat you because of the changes you are making. It’s a powerful experience if you are ready to make changes.

What’s your favorite disney/cartoon character?

My favorite Disney princess is Merida.

Favorite pastimes outside of work?

I am a registered yoga teacher, and I teach slow flow on the side. I am also an avid reader; my book club has been going strong for 6 years.

Guilty pleasure food?

Cheese. Chips and Queso, mac and cheese, cheesy anything.

Coffee order?

Cortado with sugar or flat white with half hazelnut half vanilla
