Sustained Recovery: Building a Life That Supports Your Recovery
Recovery isn’t just about stopping substance use. It’s about learning how to build a life that makes staying in recovery possible.
For many people, the hardest part can come after treatment ends. Returning to everyday life, managing stress, navigating relationships, and figuring out what comes next can feel overwhelming. That’s why sustainable recovery often involves ongoing support as part of your everyday life.
What Does Sustained Recovery Look Like?
There isn’t one right way to recover. Sustained recovery may look like:
Building a strong support system
Learning healthier ways to cope with stress and difficult emotions
Recognizing triggers before they become overwhelming
Creating routines that support your mental and emotional health
Setting boundaries with people or situations that may threaten your recovery
Continuing therapy or group support when you need it
Giving yourself room to grow without expecting perfection
Most importantly, recovery is a process, not a finish line. Having a difficult day, or even experiencing a setback, doesn’t erase the progress you’ve made.
You Shouldn’t Do Recovery Alone
At Candor Therapy Network, we believe meaningful recovery happens through connection, honesty, and support. Therapy and recovery groups can provide a space to talk openly, learn from others, and develop practical tools for navigating life in recovery.
Our newest Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Prevention and Recovery Group is designed for adults who are working toward recovery, looking for additional support, or stepping down from a higher level of care such as PHP or IOP.
The group meets virtually on Wednesdays at 8:15 PM and is open to adults 18+.
Whether you are just beginning your recovery journey or working to maintain the progress you’ve already made, you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.
Recovery is about building something sustainable and you can start one step at a time.
Candor Therapy Network provides substance use therapy and recovery support in Richmond, VA, with virtual options available.
